Model for Therapy

Counselling psychology has the objective of helping people to live more effective and fulfilled lives and overcome the difficulties they may be experiencing.   It is concerned with the whole person in all areas of human psychological functioning such as feeling and thinking, behaviour and relationships. Its goal is to foster the psychological development of the individual with the  emphasis on wellbeing, personal development and growth rather than focusing on sickness. It draws on a range of therapeutic models and interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Integrative and Humanistic theories of human development and behaviour.

How I work

Therapy is a collaboration between the client and therapist working together towards the shared goals of gaining deeper insight and understanding of the difficulties that are being experienced and supporting you as you work through these to allow you to move forward with your life in a manner that is right for you.    I work both briefly and longer-term with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy which identify your goals and help you to develop skills to achieve these.  I am integrative in my approach and also practice with Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Person-Centred models of therapy and offer a calm, empathic and non-judgemental space in which to reflect and explore.
