Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is provided by Chartered Physiotherapists in our purpose built, temperature-controlled pool

Following the recent refurbishment work on the hydrotherapy, we are delighted that normal service hours have resumed.

Hydrotherapy is an evidence-based specialist treatment that uses the properties of water to treat patients with a wide range of conditions. The temperature is kept at a constant 33-35ºC which is ideal for muscle relaxation and for pain management. In addition, the buoyancy and resistance of the water helps improve stability, lessens pressure on joints and promotes the restoration or maintenance of function. The benefits of hydrotherapy are:

  • increased freedom of movement
  • relief of pain and muscle spasm
  • reduction in swelling and improved circulation
  • ease of movement, joint range and flexibility
  • improved strength and endurance
  • re-education of function - posture, balance and coordination
  • improved cardiovascular fitness
  • feeling of wellbeing

“Since coming here to the hydro pool my confidence has grown and I have become a stronger person both mentally and physically...”

We are experienced in treating many conditions in our hydrotherapy pool, including:

Your treatment journey

Assessment
We want you to gain maximum benefit from your therapy at Burrswood, so your first session will be a land based assessment with one of our chartered physiotherapists. During this appointment your needs and goals will be discussed and assessed. This enables the physiotherapist to tailor a treatment plan specific to you. The cost of this assessment session is £45.

Therapist hydrotherapy
If the physiotherapist assesses that you will benefit from hydrotherapy, your following session will be in the hydrotherapy pool with a therapist. All therapists working in our hydrotherapy pool have been trained in the specifics of hydrotherapy so you can be assured of the highest standard of treatment. All sessions in the hydrotherapy pool with a therapist are for 30 minutes at a cost of £45.

Self-directed hydrotherapy
After a number of therapist led sessions in the hydrotherapy pool you might feel ready to exercise in the hydrotherapy pool on your own. Your therapist will provide you with a sheet of follow on exercises. You can then book self-directed sessions in the hydrotherapy pool at a time to suit your schedule.
Self directed (remedial) hydrotherapy sessions are 30 minutes long and cost £13.

Hydrotherapy Group sessions
If your schedule lends itself to a regular session each week, you might wish to consider one of our group sessions in the hydrotherapy pool. We have a number of groups taking place each week. These take place at the same time each week and we have a number of groups taking place each week. For more information about our hydrotherapy group sessions click here. Group Physiotherapy
Group sessions last for 30 minutes and cost £9 per session paid monthly in advance.

Hydrotherapy Classes
We also run therapist led classes in our hydrotherapy pool. For more information about these classes click here.
The classes are is 30 minutes and cost £9 per session paid monthly in advance.

If you choose to book self-directed hydrotherapy sessions, or participate in a group or class, you can request a review with a physiotherapist at any point. This ensures your hydrotherapy exercise programme continues to provide the best treatment for your condition.
