Putting together a display of Dorothy Kerin's amazing life story. Centenary of her healing on Feb 18th which led to her founding Burrswood

our prayer diary

Our prayer diary, published three times a year, is available below or in a printable format at the bottom of this page.

Our Senior Chaplain writes:

The year 2012 is a great year for Burrswood, as we shall celebrate the centenary of Dorothy Kerin’s miraculous healing. She called February 18th 1912 ‘my beautiful day’, and on that date we shall hold a Healing Service here, followed by a national celebration at St Martin’s in the Fields in London in May. Details of all that are in the Burrswood News and on the website.

Dorothy’s healing was God’s miraculous gift to her, and it is profoundly moving to read her account of it. However, of itself it is about the healing of one young woman. It was just a few weeks later, on March 11th, that God’s greater purpose began to unfold. Dorothy described how she was woken up by a voice calling her name.

She wrote: ‘I sat up, and saw, at the foot of my bed, a wonderful light, out of which came the most beautiful face of a woman. She was holding a lily in her hand, and came quite close to my side saying, ‘Dorothy, you are quite well now. God has brought you back to use you for a great and privileged work. In your prayers and faith, many sick shall you heal; comfort the sorrowing; give faith to the faithless. Many rebuffs will you have, but remember you are thrice blessed. His Grace is sufficient for you. He will never leave you.’

God showed his love for Dorothy in healing her of her brokenness. That gift of healing, though, was given to be shared and magnified, for the benefit of many thousands of other broken people and to glorify God, the giver of the gift.  What was true for Dorothy is true for all of us. We receive from God his passionate and generous love for us, and then not for us alone but in order that we might shine with his light in our lives, blessing those around us.

So in this coming year of 2012 we shall thank God for Dorothy Kerin’s healing, but much more than that, we shall give thanks for all that flowed from that moment, for God’s healing, strengthening, faith giving work that still continues at Burrswood and elsewhere. We shall pray for his continuing wisdom and guidance as we continue what was begun in 1912 and is still so urgent and important in the world of 2012. We constantly have to refresh how we carry out his mission, but the call of God remains the same.

Prayer is at the heart of that work, as it always has been. In 2012 let us all be thankful for God’s miracle in Dorothy Kerin and her faithful obedience to his call, and let us renew our prayer for his provision and guidance on that work now and into the future. May he bless you richly as you pray.

I would like to share with you a prayer for Burrswood that was sent to me anonymously:

Dear Father God,
Bless Burrswood and give it all grace and vision of Your heart for its future. Take from it everything that is not of You, and build up and strengthen all that comes from You. Bless those who work and stay there with light and hope, for Jesus’ sake.  Amen.
