Details of the all-inclusive care on offer:

Rather than offering a bed price, we offer a range of ‘care package’ prices. These have proved popular with patients and Primary Care Trusts in that the financial commitment is clear from the time of arranging the admission. Our intention is to ensure patients do not opt out of particular therapies because of anxiety about their final account. For more information on prices or if you feel your patient requires a combination of therapeutic approaches not listed here please contact our Admissions team on 01892 865988.

Patient information packs include a simplified description of the care packages on offer. This also includes the daily charge rate for each package.

Care for Stress
For those who could benefit from improving the way they manage stress and anxiety; as well as talking with one of our stress-management counsellors, patients will be able to experience and learn practical techniques to reduce the physical and mental effects of stress. Our physio team may also provide a programme of hydrotherapy, swimming, gentle exercise and massage (if appropriate). Pastoral chaplaincy support is also included for those who would like a spiritual dimension to this one week care package. It is aimed at those who:

  • are reluctant or unable to engage in counselling
  • are willing to attend relaxation groups
  • would benefit from a gentle, 'introductory' approach to addressing the effects of emotional issues
  • may have mild to moderate psychological symptoms
  • want to improve the management of problematic stress and emotions
  • are limited by time or funds to a one-week admission

End of Life Care
This category of care is for anyone facing a terminal diagnosis of either a malignant or degenerative illness. The life expectancy of the patient may range from months to days, and we will accommodate. Usually a stay is booked for a couple of weeks, to be sure that Burrswood suits the patient, and then a longer term stay can be agreed. This package will include all the nursing and medical care required, provision for counselling support to the patient or family. Physiotherapy is included, if it will be of benefit, alternatively massage may be of benefit instead.

Independent Respite
This package provides a safe place for an independent elderly person, while those who usually keep an eye on them are away. The care provided is that of gentle oversight with some pastoral care if required. The nursing and medical care is ‘light touch only’, and physiotherapy and counselling would not normally be included. Those coming under this category would be mobile and largely independent with personal care and dressing.

Assisted Respite
This package is designed for those who need some assistance with everyday tasks such as washing, dressing, mobility and medications. The assistance of one carer would enable the person to be washed and dressed, and the person may then be independent within their room, but need help to walk further distances. Medical care and physiotherapy are included, along with chaplaincy/pastoral support. Assistance with setting up care on discharge is also provided.

Dependent Respite
This category of care is for people who are immobile or bed bound, and who need the assistance of two nurses/carers to complete their personal care and hygiene, and to move from their bed using a hoist. The nursing care required will usually include assistance with feeding, full support with their medications and management of catheters, stomas, or wounds. Medical care and chaplaincy/pastoral care are included. Physiotherapy (or hydrotherapy/massage) is also included. Additionally, an air mattress may be required to prevent or encourage healing of pressure sores. Assistance with changing or increasing care on discharge is also provided.

Step down care
This package is designed for patients who are coming straight from hospital, and need a period of further care to enable them to live independently at home. The stay in hospital may have been for medical reasons, eg recovery from pneumonia or following surgery. The care includes all nursing care, assistance with wound care and dressings as required, medical care and physiotherapy that will assist towards independence. Chaplaincy/pastoral care is included and counselling support if required. If ongoing care at home is required, assistance to set this up is provided.

Step down (orthopaedic) care
This package is designed for patients who are coming straight from hospital, following specific orthopaedic or spinal surgery, who require a period of further care to enable them to live independently at home. The care includes all nursing care, assistance with wound care and dressings as required, medical care and intensive physiotherapy that will assist towards independence. Chaplaincy/pastoral care is included and counselling support if required. If ongoing care at home is required, assistance to set this up is provided.

Intensive rehabilitation
This category of care is for patients who have suffered recent neurological problems, such as an acute stroke, and who have been in hospital for some time, but need a longer period of rehabilitation to achieve the maximum potential for recovery. The nursing care required may initially be intense (as in the dependent respite category), but also includes intensive physiotherapy. The package includes medical cover, the provision of hoisting and air mattress, as well as pastoral support.

Others who may benefit from this care are those with degenerative neurological diseases (or similar) where a recent deterioration has occurred due to infection or concurrent illness. The intensive physiotherapy and care may allow some previous independence to be regained. Counselling support for the patient or family may be of benefit.
