Step-down Care...

Step-down Care is for patients who need a stopover between hospital and home, having had surgery (non-orthopaedic) or after treatment for acute or chronic medical conditions. This package enables patients to have space to heal and regain independence (get back on their feet) and be confident enough to return home.

Step-down Orthopaedic Care...

Step-down Orthopaedic Care is for patients who have been in hospital for orthopaedic surgery and need to gain strength, mobility and confidence before returning home. This package includes intensive physiotherapy and, if appropriate hydrotherapy, enabling patients to get back on their feet swiftly.

The Care Plan

As part of a planned recovery, coming to Burrswood can result in an earlier discharge from hospital.

On arrival at Burrswood, the patient is assessed by the resident doctor and a registered nurse. Within 24 hours of being here a physiotherapist will assess the patient's mobility. Together, this team will plan individual care for the patient.

If necessary, drugs are prescribed here and a patient will only pay for their prescription costs.

Our discharge liaison nurse will help organise a patient’s discharge to ensure they receive the level of care they need when they get home.
