Palliative care is the active total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. Control of pain, of other symptoms and of psychological, social and spiritual problems is paramount. At Burrswood the inter-disciplinary care team aims to achieve the best quality of life for patients and their families.
With beautiful surroundings and a comfortable environment, Burrswood speaks of hope and healing. Even in the final days of life, care - whether by specially trained nurses and doctors, relatives, counsellors, clergy or physiotherapist - can always be positive, planned and purposeful. Within a secure environment it is possible to face and share the realities of each situation openly, helping patients, families and staff acknowledge and work with feelings of fear or pain, grief or vulnerability.
