Today's modern Burrswood incorporates a 35-bed hospital, hydrotherapy pool, physiotherapy suite and counselling rooms equipped to meet all official standards across six areas of treatment:
- step-down, post-surgical and medical care;
- Rehabilitation and physical therapy;
- Counselling in psychological and behavourial issues;
- chronic fatigue syndrome (cfs/me);
- short-term respite care;
- palliative and terminal care
Burrswood is proud of its unique identity within the landscape of British healthcare. It is the only facility in Britain - possibly anywhere - that is fully registered under the The Health Care Commission combining medicine with Christian ministry.
Between 1948 and the present day Burrswood has undergone a process of systematic professional upgrading. Treatment has expanded beyond traditional nursing methods to embrace the techniques and standards of modern non-acute medicine; with an emphasis on interdisciplinary care - doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, counsellors, and chaplains - all working closely together.
As a result, Burrswood now has a strong reputation for recognising that body, mind and spirit have equal importance in the healing process. The roles of orthodox rehabilitation, loving and competent care, beautiful surroundings and good food are also recognised as being of vital importance.
In 1999, Burrswood passed another landmark in its continuing evolution as a healthcare institution of growing substance. It progressed from nursing home to full hospital registration and is now recognised by Primary Care Trusts and some insurance providers as a registered hospital for non-acute and non-surgical treatment.
The typical length of stay for Burrswood hospital patients is ten days to two weeks, depending on the medical condition. Based on this, Burrswood currently has a capacity to receive about 700 inpatients every year.
We are happy to admit patients from the age of 16 onwards. However, please note that our registration precludes us from admitting patients with psychoses or with drug or alcohol dependencies.
