Counselling Training - Personality Adaptations

A one day course on 8th December with Mark Head

Brief description of training:

Have you ever wondered how it is that you find it easier to get on with some people rather than others? Alternatively, perhaps you think that the “chemistry” between you is down to some ability or defect in yourself or the other person.

Personality Adaptations is a model for understanding people and how they function within the world. Based upon research by Paul Ware, it indicates that there are a limited number of ways in which we can adapt to others and life experience. Ware recognised that whilst people can adapt in all six of these ways they tend to use one or two most of the time.

Whilst, personality adaptations is primarily a model that explain peoples personality – and offers personality types, it is also useful in understanding why we get on better with some people and not others based upon our personality adaptation and that of the other person.

Personality Adaptations, is a useful model for understanding our own and other peoples ways of functioning. It can help both at an individual level and in team situations, in understanding what each adaptation brings to the team.

PA is a concept from Transactional Analysis and is used worldwide in organisations, education, counselling, psychotherapy, personal development and many other areas. TA is a theory that can often be picked up and understood quickly to empower self and other but with a depth of theory behind it

Brief outcomes of training:  Participants will:-

  • understand the 6 different Personality Adaptions
  • recognise how to identify them in themselves and others
  • understand why they find some adaptations more difficult to deal with
  • understand how to build effective relationships with people based on their adaptations
