Volunteers

Volunteers are active in all aspects of the life of Burrswood and have an important part to play here. We have about 140 volunteers currently working as part of the staff team. Have you thought of joining them?

We always try to match a volunteer"s interests or experience with the opportunities available. The following is a list of some of the options:

Activities with patients and guests

We are always looking for fresh ideas of art and craft, music and drama activities for patients and guests. Volunteers who could run one of these activities once a month are always welcome.

Administration

Volunteers work to support staff with a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks.

Bookshop or Charity Shop

Volunteers work in both the Bookshop at Burrswood and the Charity Shop in Crowborough to welcome and serve customers, assist with the till, help with displays and in the Bookshop to deal with mail orders.

Chaplaincy

Many people are needed in this department as stewards, sacristans, relief organists and to help with flower arranging or cleaning the church.

The Estates Team

Welcome volunteers both in the gardening team and also to help with maintenance work around the house and grounds. We also need volunteers who would drive patients around in the grounds in "the buggy".

Flower Arranging

Flowers from the gardens are used to add to the beauty and peace of the house, hospital and church. Volunteers come to make posies or more formal arrangements depending on their own abilities.

Serving teas and coffees and in the Tea Room also food preparation

Some volunteers serve tea and coffee to patients and guests whilst others work in the Tea Room and help with food preparation as well as serving food and clearing tables. We also have a Trolley Shop for patients run by Volunteers.

If you are interested in any of these volunteering roles or think that there might be other skills that you have to offer, please contact the Volunteer Co-ordinator, Jo Wheeler on 01892 863637 ext. 2210 or email volunteers@burrswood.org.uk

Please note that in general we do not provide accommodation for volunteers.
